Fell Ponies for Sale
Willowtrail Liberty
2010 black filly with white spot on right hind heel
Sire: Guards Apollo
Dam: Bowthorne Matty
Libby ranks among the best ponies I’ve bred. Now rising two years old, her bone and substance are starting to show, and she has above average Fell Pony movement. She is always one of the first to greet me at the fence, and like all my ponies she’s been trailering since she was a few days old. Her unique bloodlines, along with her great type, make her a valuable addition to a breeding program. She is one of the easiest ponies to train that I've ever had, so she'll also make a great ride/drive pony. And who wouldn't want to look at that beautiful face everyday?! Other Opportunities
Willowtrail Black Robin
Robin is my young home-bred Fell Pony stallion. He is very easy to train, has fabulous conformation, and is licensed for breeding. He is four years old this year and will make a great eventing or dressage pony. I wish to retain him for breeding, but my location makes participation in dressage or other showing venues difficult. If there is someone who is interested in working with me to achieve their showing goals with a Fell Pony, I would be thrilled to hear from them.
Robin knows all seven games of Parelli Natural Horsemandship and has been self-assessed at Level 1 On-line Patterns. You can see video of Robin as a two year old doing Figure 8s on-line by clicking here and jumping a pole by clicking here. You can see video of Robin's manners and movement as a three year old by clicking here. I have been on his back a number of times and am working carefully to ensure that every ridden experience is a positive one for him. To see a slide show of Robin, click here.
Buying a Fell Pony
When you buy a pony from me, you are buying more than a hairy animal with four hooves. Each pony that passes through my life enters my heart and takes a bit of it with them when they leave. I feel a great responsibility to place my sale ponies in homes that are a good match for their temperament, conformation, and expected use. I stay in contact with my buyers; many of them have become friends. I will not sell a pony into a breeding situation unless I feel it will contribute well to the breed.
I believe that every pony has an innate personality and that there can be personality conflicts with humans. Having experienced this myself, I endeavor to make good matches between pony and buyer or to recommend other ponies that are on the market if they would be better matches. For other ponies for sale in the western United States, I recommend visiting the Fells of the West co-op.
Fell Ponies mature slowly and should not be ridden before four years of age, though many are backed at three; Fell Pony Society ridden classes only allow ponies four years old and up. Fells are typically not put into regular hard work until after seven years of age. Waiting this long ensures them a long and active life. Some ponies are ridden and driven well into their twenties.
If you are interested in discussing whether one of my sale ponies would be appropriate for you, please contact me.
If you prefer to call, I'm easiest to catch in the evenings at (970) 723-4316. Cell phones don't work here!
