Fell Ponies for Sale
Willowtrail Liberty
2010 black filly with white spot on right hind heel
Sire: Guards Apollo
Dam: Bowthorne Matty
Libby ranks among the best ponies I’ve bred. Now rising two years old, her bone and substance are starting to show, and she has above average Fell Pony movement. She is always one of the first to greet me at the fence, and like all my ponies she’s been trailering since she was a few days old. She’ll make a great ride/drive pony or serve as a worthy addition to a breeding program. Libby is black like her father. Willowtrail Jonty
2008 black gelding with white markings.
Sire: Guards Apollo
Dam: Turkey Trot Sand Lily
Jonty is a rising four year old black gelding, standing about 13.1hh. I am now starting him. He’s the first one to come to the fence when I appear, so he apparently likes our sessions! If you’d like highlights from The Jonty Journal, let me know. Jonty has above average Fell Pony movement and is on the slightly mellow side for the breed. Like all my ponies, he’s been trailering since he was a few days old. The spelling of his name derives from several Fell Ponies in England who were in turn named after a famous farrier named Jonty Wilson. I named my Jonty thus because of his movement; the best I'd bred at the time he was born. We have assessed at Level 1 On-Line in Parelli Natural Horsemanship. Jonty is priced at $2,500.00.
Willowtrail Winter Lad
2009 solid black colt
Sire: Guards Apollo
Dam: Sleddale Rose Beauty
Laddie is a solid black three year old gelding. He will mature at 13hh. Laddie is a beauty to watch when his energy is up and he trots away. Out of my foundation mare Sleddale Rose Beauty, Laddie was her last foal. He has all her bone and substance plus the movement of his imported father Guards Apollo. I have retained Laddie’s full sister for breeding. Laddie has charmed every visitor he's met. Laddie got his name from when he was born: the last day of February in 2009 when the outside temperature was eight degrees. The timing definitely wasn't the best decision his dam has made, but she's the pony that caused me to fall for Fell Ponies, so I can't complain! You can see some video of Laddie and me in the round pen by clicking here. Laddie is priced at $2,500.00.
Other Opportunities
Turkey Trot Sand Lily
Lily was my first foal and has a special place in my heart. She doesn't like being a broodmare, so I'm looking for a better home for her than I can give her. She's nine years old and is green-broke to ride. We have completed our official auditiion for Parelli Natural Horsemanship's Level 2 On-line and are working on our Level 2 ridden (freestyle.) The picture shows Lily with my husband after we compIeted filming our audition. Lily loved performing and may be a good candidate for following in her father's footsteps; Midnight is now doing classical riding in New York. I will be advertising Lily for sale after we've completed our Level 2, but if there is a natural horsemanship enthusiast out there who would be interested in being a partner with Lily and helping progress faster than I can, I would love to hear from them. You can see the video that earned Lily and me our Level 2 On-line completion by clicking here.
Willowtrail Black Robin
Robin is my young home-bred Fell Pony stallion. He is very easy to train, has fabulous conformation, and is licensed for breeding. He is four years old this year and will make a great eventing or dressage pony. I wish to retain him for breeding, but my location makes participation in dressage or other showing venues difficult. If there is someone who is interested in working with me to achieve their showing goals with a Fell Pony, I would be thrilled to hear from them. The ideal candidate would be within five hours of my location.
Robin knows all seven games of Parelli Natural Horsemandship and has been self-assessed at Level 1 On-line Patterns. You can see video of Robin as a two year old doing Figure 8s on-line by clicking here and jumping a pole by clicking here. You can see video of Robin's manners and movement as a three year old by clicking here. To see a slide show of Robin, click here.
Buying a Fell Pony
When you buy a pony from me, you are buying more than a hairy animal with four hooves. Each pony that passes through my life enters my heart and takes a bit of it with them when they leave. I feel a great responsibility to place my sale ponies in homes that are a good match for their temperament, conformation, and expected use. I stay in contact with my buyers; many of them have become friends. I will not sell a pony into a breeding situation unless I feel it will contribute well to the breed.
I believe that every pony has an innate personality and that there can be personality conflicts with humans. Having experienced this myself, I endeavor to make good matches between pony and buyer or to recommend other ponies that are on the market if they would be better matches. For other ponies for sale in the western United States, I recommend visiting the Fells of the West co-op.
Fell Ponies mature slowly and should not be ridden before four years of age, though many are backed at three; Fell Pony Society ridden classes only allow ponies four years old and up. Fells are typically not put into regular hard work until after seven years of age. Waiting this long ensures them a long and active life. Some ponies are ridden and driven well into their twenties.
If you are interested in discussing whether one of my sale ponies would be appropriate for you, please contact me.
If you prefer to call, I'm easiest to catch in the evenings at (970) 723-4316. Cell phones don't work here!
